Emerging Fashion Trends in Canada 2019

When it comes to fashion, Canadians have a lot to be proud of. From homegrown designers like Erdem to Mackage, the great North has been making waves and setting industry trends for a long time now. We’re sticking to our roots and taking a look back at eight of the biggest homegrown trends that started in Canada!

The "Canadian Tuxedo"

Denim on denim. Need we say more? This farm-fashion trend is having a major resurgence in popularity as of late, and it’s not hard to see why. When it comes to mastering that model-off-duty style, nothing says easy chic more than a denim button down and some distressed straight-leg jeans.

PUNK

Take anything Vivienne Westwood, add a dollop of Marc Jacobs circa Perry Ellis and mix in some Studio 54 and you've got this season's grunge-meets-glitz vibe. Sparkles, PVC and leather are a must. Also key: eyeliner, and lots of it.

Flannel

Like most of our homegrown trends, this one probably came about as we struggled to balance the need for warmth during our long winters with the desire to hang onto some semblance of style at the same time. Now a staple, the flannel top has become one of those basics that just work with everything.

BUSTIER
Like the corset, this rigid undergarment has become a symbol of female empowerment. Wear it layered over a blouse or with a bold choker – anything goes, really.
